Neolithic era

With the Neolithic era, from 5000 to 2500 before J-C: first farmers of the Cap-Sizun

Towards 6,000 front J. - C. fundamental changes upset the social organization established with the Paleolithic one. The human groups turn into a sedentary population and practice from now on the breeding and agriculture.
The rupture with a saving of hunting and gathering takes place gradually.
At the same time the age of the megaliths develops along an Atlantic arc of Denmark in Portugal, via British Isles and Ireland.
It is the time of the construction of the large tumuli of North-Finistere: BARNENEZ, CARN, GAIGNOC.
From 5,000 to 2,000 front J. - C. these burials evolve in shady walks of various types.
In Brittany, the settlement with the average Neolithic era seems to be in edge of the sea and to be spread with the final Neolithic era towards the interior of the grounds. It would be a consequence of the clearing made possible by the use of the POLISHED AXE AS PIERRE made starting from the local rocks. According to its size and the nature of the rock employed, this tool could be used of axe, hoe, weapon or jewel.

Shady walks and menhirs
The shady walks are made of a megalithic room of about ten meters length, kind of artificial cave of funerary use. Their outside was presented (slope) in the form of a stone cairn
dry. The internal room was to be the burial of late important. Their frontage was to be the theater of ceremonies for the alive ones. These monuments are the first witnesses of the awakening of a religious direction.
For the menhirs, the researchers advance the following assumptions:
- Indicators of burial,
- Role in the worship of water when they are close to a source or a waterway,
- Geographical Reference marks or terminals delimiting a territory,
- Astronomical Reference marks (directed alignments, cf Carnac),
- Commemorative Roles…
